FAQ

Questions and answers

How long does a new concrete driveway take?

Plan on several days to a week or more of work, but timing varies by job. Forms and base prep come first. Then the pour and finish. Then the concrete must cure. You can usually walk on it in a few days. Cars need longer. Heavy trucks need longer still. Ask the provider for a written schedule.

Can I pour a concrete patio myself?

You can, but it is hard work. Small slabs are doable. Concrete sets fast, and mistakes are hard to undo. Bad base prep, poor drainage or weak mix lead to cracks. Deep frost makes this worse in cold winters. For large or stamped jobs, a local provider is usually the safer choice.

How much does a concrete driveway cost?

Typical U.S. prices run roughly $6 to $15 per square foot for plain concrete. Stamped work often costs more. Slope, thickness, old slab removal, reinforcement and access all change the price. Treat these numbers as a ballpark. Get a written quote from the provider before you agree to anything.

What is stamped concrete, and is it right for a patio?

Stamped concrete is poured concrete pressed with patterns. It can look like stone, brick or slate. It suits patios well. It needs sealing every few years. It can be slick when wet, so ask about a textured finish. Hot summers and freeze-thaw cycles affect how it ages.

What are early signs my concrete is failing?

Spot it early. Look for hairline cracks that widen, flaking surface, pooling water, sunken corners and gaps along the house. Cracks near a foundation can point to bigger soil or drainage trouble. Small fixes cost less than full replacement. A provider can look at it and explain your options.

Does the weather affect when I can pour?

Yes. Very cold ground and hard frost can ruin a pour. Heat and storms cause problems too. Many jobs happen in late spring through early fall. A provider can tell you what timing makes sense for your site and how they protect fresh concrete.

How do I choose a concrete provider?

Ask for a written quote that lists the scope, thickness, base work, reinforcement and cleanup. Ask what happens with drainage. Ask about their experience with flatwork like yours. Compare more than one estimate if you can. Be cautious of pressure to decide fast or pay everything up front.
